Proposal 3: Increasing immersion by building affective features into games

Pros:
  • a game could be much more involving / entertaining / fun if it could emotionally involve us

  • could pull the benefits of affective learning into gaming

  • emotional attachment to a game -> more addicting; more appealing to female population (Nick Yee - one of his five motivational factors:  most appealing to women is the emotional / relational aspect)

  • current games prefer male population - much of it about fighting / violence, things that are more appealing to guys

  • many social / cultural phenomenon happen in a MMOG- such as marriage - what's the purpose of getting married in a virtual world?
Cons:
  • argument over the meaning of immersion
